Configure the Twitter module

April 30, 2010 by Steve

The Twitter module gives you a few different ways to connect with Twitter. Individual users can tweet when they add content to the site and you can set up a site-wide Twitter account if you want.

The module adds a tab to the individual user profiles. This is where you need to go to enter your personal Twitter information.

The Site Configuration > Twitter Setup page has the basic settings. You can enter your sitewide Twitter account information here and configure what types of content should make tweets happen. If a user has Twitter enabled (by putting a password in the Twitter tab of their user profile) and one of these content type is enabled, then when that user makes that kind of post, the site will tweet about it.

The Twitter import function brings in the tweets from users who have set up their profiles. (That makes the Twitter block possible. The Twitter block is provided by the Views module, however, not the Twitter module.)

Under User Management > Permissions, you can decide what kind of users can add Twitter accounts and use the global Twitter account. For people to just see the tweets, no changes are needed.
